THE VIZSLA
The Vizsla (pronounced "vish-la") is a Hungarian
word meaning "obedient and alert". Not only do Vizslas exhibit
these qualities, they are also highly intelligent and sensitive.
They display an intense desire to please their owners and readily
respond to praise and attention. Making them very easy to train.
Quiet yet determined, gentle yet bold, sensitive yet confident,
this dog embodies most of the ideal characteristics one would
look for in both a hunter and a pet. As a hunter, the Vizsla is
truly a sportsman's dream. Versatlie and effective against a wide
variety of game valued as a scenter, pointer and retriever. Vizslas
also make an extremely enjoyable pet with one mission in life-to
serve and to please their owners.
Considered a medium-sized hunter the Vizsla stands 21 to 24 inches
at the shoulders and weighs 45-60lbs. It is a slick, shorthaired
dog, rust gold to cinnamon in color, with brown lips, nose, and
eyes. A longer tail dock than most pointers contributes to a trim,
sleek, racey profile.
Viaslas have energy galore and as an owner you will have fun keeping
them busy. Vizslas are fun to train because they are eager to
prove how much they love their owners. They are very smart and
learn quickly, but also sensitive to gentle corrections go a long
way.
